I have searched for a long time for a personal finance management app and found iFinance the best of all! Simple, Complete, Smart, Time Saver… EXACTLY ALL I NEED. The category management with automatic record classification is amazing. The best of it is that it is completely customizable, you create your own categories, subcategorias, budgets and views. I congratulate the development team for the great work for this great app, which helps people get real control over their personal finance.

This release (4.1) has many bugs. - When i try to change view transaction (mounth ex.) the app crashed; - When i receive one alert (WhatsApp ex.) the app crashed; - The ListView transaction title is terrible to read (iPhone 6S Plus ex.); Please, we need a more stable release!!!
Still extremely buggy, especially the CSV import.
Have not been able to import QIF files generated by iBank. No help from iFinance 4 Support. No help from documentation.
First off, I’ve been running the beta for some time now. I did enjoy it but found that many of usability tweaks that had been suggested by myself and others like me still haven’t been implemented. It shows great promise, but here are a still quite a few bugs and ease of workflow enhancements that need addressing. - So first off I’m bummed that Canadian banks aren’t yet supported for OFX. But that’s been the fare in Canada for ever so I’ll wait. - BUG - I setup a transfer between accounts, then change the date. One would expect the linked transfer to have the date change as well, but doens’t. - When opening or creating a new database, it’s rather annoying that it pre-populates; how about an option on create to pre-populate or leave blank. - Stocks has improved significantly, well done! - iOS WiFi sync should be easier to find and not buried in Database, and if enabled should be found on bottom of finances screen, next to OFX sync icon. - This is now officially making me angry, iCloud sync doens’t work properly!!!! I do some work on my computer, but I have to close my file and reopen for it to upload to iCloud. It has happened too many times where I don’t close, I make a change on my phone the whole database get wiped. - That kind of behaviour makes WiFi sync much more appealing ergo GIVE US THE ABILITY TO INITIATE iCLOUD SYNC ON OUR OWN!!!!! - I would like to see the option of being able to choose our language (en-GB or en-US). There is not Z in compromise, and so all spelling should be either English or US Engrish. This is just a starting point, I’m sure I’ll have more to add to this as I use the app more.
Wow! 4.1 is a FANTASTIC improvement! Lots of polish, and seemingly small improvements that make everything better…AND syncing across the board is MUCH faster and more reliable (Os X, iOS, and the faster Watch app). The cash accounts on iOS are an incredible addition to allow manually keeping track of purchases you can validate against bank transaction info. Really great work on this update! Also - I hope I never need the automatic backups, but I love that they are in there now! Thank you for the great improvements! ————previous review ----- TL;DR - It’s working well for me, much better than previous apps I have tried and the fact that it is connected across devices is making it easier for me to stay on top of things. I LOVE the customizable icons on accounts and categories…makes things much more interesting than the bland activity of finance tracking and easy to identify transactions and accounts visually. Beautfiul charts/graphs. Try out the demo from their site if you’re unsure. (I’d recommend getting the iOS app as well, though it’s not free… but at least they made it universal.) --- I started off importing credit card, bank account, etc info from various financial sites and imported in various formats (QFX, OFX, CSV, QIF) without a hitch. I haven’t tried importing from another banking app so can’t speak to that, but assuming both the other app and this one are following standards it should be a non issue. On import it does let you make some adjustments depending on the type of format - ignore columns, map columns, specify the account, etc. iFinance auto categorizes your purchases pretty well - you can add keywords to the catgeories to help smarten it up if it’s not catching your local favourite restaurant for example. You can run the auto categorize at anytime also to recategorize anything after you edit categories and keywords. The apps I have tried in the past made categorization a pretty tedious chore. Transfers work well, but my one suggestion would be that they add an auto match in future. For example, when I specify one transaction in one account as a transfer to another, it adds a new matching transaction to the other account rather than trying to find an existing match. Assigning transactions as transfers was easy after import, but it did require that extra step of deleting a transaction for each transfer to make sure things were in balance. Jumping between transfer transactions from account to account is dead simple and the click of a button. **update/edit - Transfers ARE available on iPhone I found, but they do not use a button as the ipad and mac apps do - it’s in the form of autocomplete when entering the ‘payee’ name of another account. works nicely!** You can customize pretty much everything which is actually really nice - drop meaningful images on not only accounts, credit cards, banks, etc, but also categories and so on. In Canada, there are no live connections so it’s basically importing and manual entry…which is what I had to do in my previous app, os standard banking app fare. Stocks: pretty straightforward, includes graphs etc, keeps current numbers via Yahoo. Nice looking graphs and charts give a quick gauge on where your spending is, and the easy categorization/auto categorization makes all the difference in these being useful here. I’d recommend creating a top level folder to put all your accounts in, as it allows a bird’s eye view for searching and viewing everything regardless of which account/card and so on. You can specify whether accounts or folders roll up/display their balances to the next one which is nice. They have a demo on their site to try out for free, and a decent PDF of how to do things…though the iFinance 4 english one is under the German icon, and vice versa. Mobile apps have allowed me to do a lot of what I can do on the desktop - the only thing I missed was you cannot create a transfer on the iPhone, but you can on iPad and Mac. Would be nice to add. Apple Watch support is nice also - handy to add expenses when they happen and check on which accounts you specify.
4.0 update is really awefull. I got several issues right after the installation - every time im trying to set password on my db i get unexpected error message - user experience on mobile version is really poor. I can hardly hit small buttons trying to add my expences - when iFinance 4 is launched on my mac, wi-fi connection becomes very unstable Rolling back to 3.0
Penso che aspetterò la versione 5. per ora chiedo il rimborso I was a Finance 3 user time ago, moved for a while on MoneyWiz but not very impressed or satisfied from it, lack of feature, very slow and not "Apple style" software the only the good thing is the synchronisation. I was losing the hope of view a new iFinance version... and finally its here. But with the same problem of the iFinance 3 version, its unusable if you are 2 or more user or if you do not close your application every time. I would understand how is it possible to make a cloud app that doesnt allow concurrency of the database??? I hope will be fixed and added a way to synchronise multiple iCloud account too, in a family its likely to have many apple id, I dont know if its an iCloud/Apple problem or if there a way. Other software let you choose other cloud services (dropbox, google drive) and other make their own cloud service (SyncBit of MoneyWiz, that I hate, works gratefully could be a possibility in the future? The Wifi sync is not very useful because not automatic. Thanks
iFinance has lots of great features. The ones I use the most are downloading transactions from all my banks via OFX/QFX files (I’ve had no problems importing QFX files, and import files on a weekly basis from about a half-dozen banks), syncing my data to iCloud so that I can use iFinance on my iPhone and Watch, and setting up budgets to track my spending. I like to have lots of details about my finances, and iFinance lets me do that. iFinance is especially strong in letting me manage cash, credit, savings, and checking accounts. You can track stocks and mutual funds, but theres currently no way for me to import stock data (the developers said theyd look into adding this feature). I also really appreciate that I can use iCloud to sync my financial data between my Mac, iPhone, Watch, and iPad. It lets me keep track of my finances no matter where I am. I also prefer to use iCloud since I have more control over my data, compared to other using other companies cloud services.
If you are thinking about upgrading from version 3 to version 4, don’t waste your money. No significant improvement of anything. Actually, version 4 graphics display changed to a kindergarten like look that makes the whole display confusing. I wasn’t crazy about iFianace 3 to start with, being a long time user of MS Money, but it seems to be to best I can find for Mac.
I was able to import my bank data within minutes and iFinance helped me to assign categories for every transaction. For example I am now fully aware of the fact that I smoke way too much (340$ a month, UGH!)… The user interface is quite nice and the whole set up didnt take long. I’d love to see some more charts but the existing ones are great and iFinance’s reports will help me a lot figuring out how I can save some money. Five stars for now - and please keep improving it.
Importing transactions from US financial institutions simply doesnt work. On some, not even the test access will go through. In other cases, you can add the online data provider, but the interface just won’t let you assign it to an account. I really wish YNAB was still a desktop application. Now it’s time to try and get those $20 back.
iFinance 3 is a solid program, but iFinance 4 is unusuable for me. I am sticking to iFinance 3 until certain features are fixed, most importantly auto-completion of transaction titles between accounts (I don’t always use the same card/bank to pay for particular transactions)… really slows things down on iFinance 4. Still no progress on this despite multiple iFinance 4 revisions and messages to Synium support. Otherwise easy to use.
I waited almost two years for iFinance 4 (that’s the first time Synium’s support team mentioned the update) - and now it’s available. Finally! For example I’d love to see PayPal integration, which has already been hinted by one support team guy.
After downloading iFinance 4 and importing my iFinance 3 database I found that the reconcile function didn’t work. I had all of my months for all accounts in iFinance 3 perfectly reconciled, after import they were not reconciled and after 3 hours trying I couldn’t get them to reconcile. I finally deleted iFinance 4 and went back to iFinance 3 which works fine.
First - I had high hopes for this from Synium. I have been using their MacFamilyTree 7 since last year and it is excellent - 5 stars. If you are starting from scratch and not importing from Quicken or iBank then I would have rated this 4-5 stars. Either iBank 5 or iFinance 4 is much better than Quicken 2015 for Mac. I had previously converted from Quicken 2015 to iBank 5 because I wanted a better alternative to Quicken. iBank 5 has been a 4 start program and working pretty good. The export from Quicken 2015 for Mac and import into iBank 5 was much better than this experience. iBank 5 only allows you to export to TXF or QIF. I used QIF because iFinance 4 supports that. It would not directly open the QIF file so I had to finally drop it from the Finder to the “Demo” icon on the first window you get when opeining iFinance4. I have over 9K transctions spread across bank accounts, asset, CC, etc.. I do not import anything directly from banks but rather input all transactions manually. What did I end up with: 1. Nothing had correct balances. 2. Reconciled transactions were not carried forward - probably part of the problem and I was not about to go through 9K transactions to clear the non-reconciled items. 3. iFinance has a few built in demo/test accounts which you will need to delete (I would have hoped for a blank database). 4. To be fair, it may be partly an issue with iBank5 and others that they do not export all items…i.e. reconciled transactions. Since I bought this on the Mac App Store there is no refund so I will just have to eat the $19.99. Recommendation: If you are starting from pure scratch then either iFinance 4 or iBank 5 are very good otherwise use iBank 5. To all Finance software developers - Please take the time to ensure you all export “Everything” to an industry standard format (if there is one) - Why - We all have a lot of transactions colleted over the years and who knows which one of you will still be in business down the road. We need to be able to depend on exporting/importing so we can, if needed, move to a different finance app. A very good example is the recent announcement about Quicken possibly selling their software. It is insane. Just be aware.
This is a great application for tracking banking and credit card accounts. I migrated from iBank after many years of use. Import from iBank QIF files was seamless. Just export a separate QIF for each account and them import them into iFinance individually. Results = correct balances, correct payees, correct categories, and correct reconcilliations. The default export on iBank is all of your accounts combined. Be sure to export each account individually. The major difference in the records between iFinance and iBank is that iBank does not have a Title field. Not a problem for me because all other imported records are correct. I use the blank Title field in iFinance to indicate when I imported the data from iBank. I use the Title field in new transactions similarly to how I used the Note field in iBank. The Title field is a change in workflow, but it makes the transaction much more descriptive. Syncing via iCloud between Macs, iPhone, and iPads works perfectly. Preferences for opening databases and currency symbol location need to be set on each device. Help documentation is downloaded with the app, clearly written, and contains useful graphics. Synium replied to my email questions about switching from the demo to the app and Preference settings on individual devices within minutes. All-in-all the iFinance series of apps is working extremely well for me.
First, their Support Unit is just fantastic. The software would serve someone well that is looking to track spending and income and follow a few stocks. I was looking for a piece of software that does accounting. Assets, Liabilities, Income, Expenses and a Profit. I was unable to do that. The checks printed the Dollar amount as One Hundred and five point zero five. That would be $105.05. That really doesn’t get it. But it does print checks and many of the Financial software out there do not. It is very inexpensive and the user interface was attractive. I would think in a few days a person with a modest need would be happy. Once again, their support unit was really outstanding.
